Hey guys! Hard to believe we’re well into March at this stage but here we go. So in the spirit of Spring, today I thought I would talk about something a little bit different. As the weather is starting to get a bit warmer, I’m beginning to trade in my big, heavy grey jumpers for some lighter tops/ shirts/ vests etc. I’m not wearing thick leggings so much anymore, instead I’m opting for cotton pants or skirts. (The occasional jeans are still a must though, in fairness). But I always found it funny that with each new season, people start to change up their style a bit and maybe wear things they hadn’t worn previously. Which I suppose is what I’m doing today!
March is usually a busy month for me. Work starts piling in, deadlines keep adding up and the irrational annual fear of my birthday starts creeping in. (Heaven forbid I get any older than I already am)! With all of this in mind, I like to make more of an effort to dress a bit better. It’s been proven that if you dress up for work or for any important event, you feel better in yourself and you come across more confident as well. So if you have an interview coming up, a meeting, or you just want to spend a day trying to get your life together, why not dress to impress? That’s what I decided to do anyway.
So what’s this blog all about then? Well, it’s more of a “how-to guide” to dress business casual. Why, you may ask, did I decide to write this now? Well, it sort of centres around this cool briefcase that my dad gave me recently…
The Briefcase Is Back
So this has a bit of a story to it. My dad bought this briefcase back in 1980 in Birmingham and up until about 18 years ago he used to use it quite regularly for work. I was very young at the time, around 7 or 8, and I’d always write him little notes and stick them in this briefcase especially for him. One day I took it a bit further and whipped out some Tippex and drew hearts and stars all over it, not sure he appreciated that so much!
So it has some sentimental value and because it’s made of real, genuine leather, it’s really stood the test of time these past few years. Anyway, he decided to give it to me because he knew I would get more use out of it than him at this point.
But I remember back when briefcases were a thing. Both men and women would take these to work with them because they’re perfect for any important documents and you can fit just about everything you need in them. So what happened? Why have they kind of disappeared? Well, we all know fashion turns with the tides so (in the words of Heidi Klum) “one day you’re in, and the next day you’re out.” But that doesn’t mean the briefcase has to die a painful death. I’m planning to bring it back, and if you have any old ones lying around in your attic, you should get them out too and give them some love. You never know, in ten years time they could be the next hottest accessory. Of course, with the perfect briefcase you need the perfect pair of pants and shirt and I got both of mine in Topshop.
Can I just say these pants are so comfortable? They feel so soft and they’re so flattering as well because they cut off just above the ankle. I love the shade of grey because it’s not too dark and the detailing is fabulous. You can check them out online here.
As shirts go, this is a really nice one. It’s slightly oversized and the sleeves cut off just at the elbow. It has nice white buttons and the collar is soft. I’d recommended getting this because it’s something that you could wear with absolutely anything. Even on a casual day if you wanted to wear this with a pair of jeans and a nice cardigan I think it would look amazing. Of course, I had to put on my classic Mi Moneda with this as you can see in the picture above, what can I say that I haven’t already said about it?
To top the look off, I decided to throw on my favourite pair of shoes; the Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 patent-leather pumps in Nude. Now you don’t have to go off and spend that much money on shoes obviously to complete this look but I’ve had these ones for so long now and I tend to bring them out on special occasions. Any nude shoe will do, preferably one with a pointed toe as they give off more of an office style vibe.
And there you have it! My look for the day, what do you guys think? Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below and until the next time…
